A co-worker of mine asked if I had any recommendations for how her 12 year old daughter should go about reading scripture. They are a non Christian family, but her daughter has made numerous requests for a Bible and she wants to support her in that. Would something like the Jeff Cavins Bible timeline study be worth recommending for a younger person to help in their introduction to the scriptures? Any other suggestions? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Yes! I believe he also has something called “The Great Adventure”, which is the same timeline.

I don’t know if the Catholic bookstores and catalogues have any age-appropriate Bible studies out, but the Protestant bookstores and catalogues have plenty. (My kids grew up with them.) They even have a “comic book” Bible, which sounds cheesy and inappropriate, but it’s actually pretty cool.

But hopefully you can find Catholic Bible studies and guides out there for children. (MY kids are long grown, so I haven’t kept up with this.)

Good for the 12-year old!

And one more thing-IF the Catholic publishers don’t have anything available, you can be assured that the Evangelical Protestants who are around the 12-year old will be HAPPY to introduce her to the Bible–and to their version of Christianity, which she will probably find very appealing. So good thing that you are there! Don’t delay–like it or not, God has entered you in a race with the Evangelical Protestants for this young girl’s future religion.
