Bible Translations? (Cross-Posted in Spirituality)

Alright, I’m not terribly thrilled with various aspects of my NRSV Catholic edition. (Also, it’s a Catholic Youth Bible, and the articles are getting rather irrelevant and distracting as I get older.) However, I don’t really like the NAB either, (the translation read during Mass.) Every darn Bible I see in the store, though, is NAB. What translation do you guys use and why?

I use the RSV-CE published by both Ignatius and Sceptor. It does not have many study notes, but I don’t like the distraction myself. If I want notes I use a seperate commentary. My favorite commentaries (both of which use the RSC-CE) are:

I never could get why bookstores do not sell Douay-Rheims Bibles. Borders and Barnes and Nobles have a large Bible section with almost every translation you can think of, but not a single Douay-Rheims Bible. It is the same with Catholic Book Stores. NAB all over the place, but not a single Douay-Rheims or RSV-CE Bible.

Hi, I have been wanting to purchase a Bible, but I don’t know which one to buy. Which do you suggest? Just to let you know, I am catholic but I am new at this so I am hoping to find one that is not too hard to understand. Any suggestions of which you think is a good one? I have several different Bibles, an NAB & a Douay-Rheims. I use both & have study editions of both. I also have a Jerusalem that is pretty nice too. I really like the Douay-Rheims version in most places.(Except for places like the Our Father where it says,“Give us this day our supersubstantial bread.” :whacky: ) The King James Era English is pretty good (to me), but I use NAB for other stuff. I plan to get an RSVCE soon as well. Comparison helps understanding lots of times.

When it comes to my own reading & devotions…I use the Douay.

The NAB or RSVCE are both good for newbies like you. You can find them online and “test drive” 'em there if you want to.

It’s very early am and I’m enjoying myself…so anyway

The RSVCE, Better translation that the politically correct, gender nuetral ( @#$ that wich fertilizes the ground) you find in the NAB. I also reject the NAB for pushung source q and the late dating, 4 source theories and other fairy tales as though though it is undeniablf fact. Kinda sounds like glogal warming.

The other would be the Douay-Rheims. The “thou arts” are harder to read but no other is as powerfully written and majestic, in short truly faithful ti the Vugate:thumbsup:
