So I tried searching for the answer to this but have found nothing. Perhaps you can help me. A few months ago I was listening to Catholic Radio and someone was talking about the subject of why God allows evil and bad things to happen in the world. I remember hearing the speaker quote the Bible saying that the world does not belong to God but to the devil, or something along those lines. Can anyone tell me where to find this? Or did I completely miss what he was quoting? Thanks!

These may be the verses you’re talking about:

(Joh 14:28) You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.
(Joh 14:29) And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.
(Joh 14:30) I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me,
(Joh 14:31) but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me. Get up, let us go.

I don’t know what point the speaker was making, I’d just advise being careful because this does not mean that the evil one is in control of the world or that God is not. The enemy is real and is around, but he can only influence a person to the degree that they allow him to, because Jesus has already conquered him.
The enemy being the prince of this age just means that a lot of people are serving him, knowing it or not, while in Heaven we’ll all be serving God alone.

(Joh 16:7) But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
(Joh 16:8) And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:
(Joh 16:9) sin, because they do not believe in me;
(Joh 16:10) righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me;
(Joh 16:11) condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.

The world doesn’t belong to the Devil; the ways of the flesh do. ‘Worldliness’ can fall under the Devil’s purview. Jesus did not come to condemn the world, but to save it. Part of doing that was His transcending of the world. We too must transcend the world, even though we live in it, at this point.

Spectre88: Certainly sin and the fall of Adam has been responsible for all the calamities, suffering, diseases, tragedies and pains but God promised mankind redemption and a future time of restoration where there will be no more evil.
But certainly at the fall Satan usurped the delegated authority of man over this world. You did not hear wrong that radio program.
2Cor4:4 refers to Satan as the god of this world
Matt4:8 Satan offfers Jesus the kingdoms of this world at the temptation in the dessert. He could only do that because he was the king.
Jonh 14:30 refers to Satan as the prince of this world
Ephesians 2:2 refers to him as the prince of the power of the air
Ephesians 6:12 refers to our spiritual battle vs.powers, vs rulers of the darkness of this world.
We are in a spiritual battle but Satan is a defeated foe; Jesus conquered at the cross and He will come back and unceremoniously deal with Satan. See Rev. 12:9, and Rev 20 where first he is chained and later thrown into the lake of fire. When Satan tempts you and reminds you of your sinfulness remind him of his future.

**“Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it.” (Rev.12:7-9) **
