I’m a convert and I keep finding odd little differences between the ways Protestants and Catholics do things.
I won’t even begin to discuss how in older Catholic Bibles the characters often have different names from those I’m familiar with (Noe rather than Noah, Isaias rather than Isaiah, etc.).
But two things often throw me: 1) Catholics sometimes refer to a numbered Bible book–say 1 Kings (The First Book of Kings) as “One Kings” as opposed to “First Kings;” 2) Catholics often divide chapter and verse citations with commas instead of colons: “John 3,16,” as opposed to “John 3:16.”
Is there any particular reason for these differences?
Of course, I’m always irked when people refer to a court case as “Roe vee Wade,” instead of “Roe versus Wade.” Just a matter of taste, I guess.
