I was wondering, besides John 20: 21-23, are there are other passages in the Bible where we see the Sacrament of Reconciliation? I’ve noticed that some of the Sacraments had types in the Old Testament? Does Reconciliation have a type in the Old Testament? Feel free to give me as much as possible. I want to learn!

Peace and Goodness,

Here is a page from my file on this subject.

Reconciliation or Confession
Welcome
Try to understand the seven steps of this sacrament of confession.
You will find them in John’s gospel starting chapter 7:25 – 8:20.

Power to save is in God the Father
  1. chapter 7:25-29 Jesus cried out : “You know me… You do not know the one who sent me.”
Look for the coming of the kingdom in the Son
  2. Code:
7:30-36 When the Messiah comes, will he do more signs? “You will search for me and you will not find me.” Where is he going?
See what is the Holy spirit
3) 7:37-44 “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and let the one who believes in me drink …As the scripture has said: “Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.”
Authority at work
4) 7:45-53 Chief priests and Pharisees said to the temple police: “Why did you not arrest him?” Nicodemus asked the priests: “Our law does not judge people without giving them a hearing to find what they are doing, does it?”
Sin and sinners shown
5) 8:1-7 Master, here is a sinner with this particular sin. Pass the judgment on her. Active purification of hearts is going on. Jesus writes on the ground.
Purification of heart realized
6) 8:8-11 The test is completed when people went away and Jesus said: “ Do not sin again.”
Flowing of living waters
7) 8: 12-20 What had happened: Deliverance from evil because: “I am the light of the world. I know where I come from and where I am going. You judge according to human standards. I judge no one. Yet if I do it, I judge with the Father who sent me.”
NOTE here that Jesus sends them back to the beginning of the lesson saying: “You know neither me nor my Father.

Where is your problem with this sacrament?
Share it with any priest….

Group Celebration on the Theme: Do you love me more?
Entrance prayer. P. 718 in breviary
Isolate yourself in a visible place where you can write or scratch your signs of sins on the ground.
A priest will visit you there and use the words of the passage about the woman caught in adultery: “ Did anyone condemn you… Do not sin again.”
Our Father Prayer + Song 173 Amazing grace in breviary
