Okay guys, I need advice. I’m 20 yrs old … I’m a currently a full-time Ameri-Corps volunteer in Washington D.C. My job is teaching children to read in the DC public schools … its a tough job, 60 hours a week, for $145/wk, but I like it.
So, here’s the problem: the organization I work for is broken up into five teams … (I’m on the literacy team) … and one of the teams teaches an HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum. There’s an abstinence component, but from what little I’ve seen of it, I think there’s a heavy emphasis on condom use for “safe” sex.
I told my boss I wouldn’t have anything to do with this program, and she said I wouldn’t come near it. And I haven’t. But I still feel a little off. I mean, its not like I’m getting rich off of this, and I am doing positive stuff. On the other hand, I’m wearing the same uniform as the people teaching middle schoolers how to use condoms. I feel like it might be a serious scandal; and maybe I’m co-operating with evil.
I don’t know what to do. My sister says I’m being scrupulous. If I have to quit this job to be loyal to Christ, then I’ll do it tomorrow.
