As an American living in France, there’s a significant possibility that I’m going to be (even more of) a pariah tomorrow morning.

…go Stars and Stripes! 🇺🇸 ⚽ 💪 😀

Having said that, Les Bleues are a talented squad. I give them…one chance in three.

Should be the match of the tournament.
I am not taking anything away from England or Germany, but the Americans and the French appear to have the teams to beat.

I’m quite leery of England, who the winner of tonight’s match will face in the semifinals.

France and the US both turned out impressive performances in the group stage, but neither had any heavy competition in their respective groups. Tonight’s match will be a real test for both.

I wonder how many on Team USA started out playing AYSO soccer? I’m having flashbacks to a whole lot of time spent on the soccer field with my son when he was little.

My wife and I have been to two women’s World Cups. They’re a lot of fun. We wanted to go to this one but my mom’s illness got in the way. Just as well, the temps in Paris are similar to the temps in Tucson right now.

Here’s a pic of some the Americans in Vancouver in 2015. They were a hoot.

It was a great game, and the two goals by Rapinoe were fantastic (especially the first one). Though I have a sneaky suspicion that they caused some people to puke bile… after all she is a lesbian. 😉

I think Rapinoe is intentionally trying to get people’s goat. From all outside appearances, it’s working.

It’ll be hotter on Saturday. 90°F (32°C) in Paris today, 97°F (36°C) in Paris tomorrow.

I feel sorry for the Italians and the Dutch, who are playing in the middle of the afternoon in Rennes, where the forecast high is 95°F (35°C)… 🥵 🌡️☀️

Correction: Italy-Netherlands in Valenciennes in the afternoon. 92°F (33°C), so almost as hot as Rennes anyway. They’ve stopped the match at 30’ so everyone can drink some fluids. 🥤

Germany-Sweden in Rennes early this evening.

At least they are smart enough to have mandatory hydration breaks. They should do that for American football games and other sports, as well.

It seems like the Americans have had the toughest route to the finals.
First they played Sweden in group play. Then France. Next England. If they win, possibly a rematch against Sweden?

That’s just luck of the draw. Seeding allowed the top sides to avoid each other in the group stage. After that there are no guarantees.

Ordinarily I would say the US won’t have to face Sweden again because the Swedes won’t beat the Dutch (current European champions), but after Saturday evening I’m no longer confident of that. 😬

I do not think the Americans have played their best soccer. Hopefully, they will save that for their final two matches.
