Bill and Melinda Gates - People of the Year?

by Amber Dolle (Media Director of American Life League).

Behind every good man is a good woman. How many times have we heard that age-old saying? Sure, some women who still believe that our gender is being suppressed by men might hear that quip and immediately think: discrimination.

I, however – as a woman – do not take offense in the least. I hear that quote and immediately think that when it comes to their husbands, women have quite a bit of power to influence a man’s decisions. That being said, I wonder just how much influence Melinda Gates, wife of the world’s richest man, Microsoft’s Bill Gates, wields when it comes to allocating the millions of dollars she and her husband give to “charity” every year. I question this because Bill and Melinda’s foundation has given millions to some of the most anti-woman, anti-child, anti-family organizations in existence.

Ultimately I’d say that Bill and Melinda Gates do a lot of good that could never justify the evil done by their contributions to abortion and contraception.

That asside, I would be very careful about characterizing them directly. Better to direct the attention to the Gates charity itself. I honestly don’t know how involved in charity either of them are. For all I know they simply established a foundation, handed them some money, and said “do good with it”.

I know that the Gates foundation has even recently given some money to the support of some Catholic schools.

None of the good done by their foundation can eliminate the evil done by abortion and contraception but unlike the John Kerries of the world that appear to be only Catholic enough to encourage votes, Melinda Gates seems to actually choose to be a practicing Catholic.

If we really wanted to point out blame and culpability I’d start by asking her parish priests and Bishop if they have charitably advised her as to the teaching of the Church.

Likewise I’d point four fingers right back at myself and ask myself “what have I done today to better inform my fellow Catholics and build up the Church”.

I hate abortion and it’s cousin contraception and I’m all for trying to better inform the Gates family, but I would be real careful about pointing out blame and would try really hard to do all in charity.

Maby someone aught to write her parish priest or bishop a letter charitably requesting some private intervention.

I hate abortion!
