Can bioidentical hormones prevent a pregnancy? I’m 48 and have been using them for a year. I didn’t even think to ask my dr that until the middle of the night last night? She knows I’m a practicing Catholic and am opposed to birth control. Everything I have read about BHT doesn’t even mention this.

(a) I doubt it. These hormones do not work that way. And, you are menopausal when taking them so your body is naturally becoming infertile.

(b) Even if they somehow did have that effect, they are not “birth control” or “contraception”. They are *medication *for another problem. Any sterilizing effect would be secondary, unintended, and not morally problematic.
