Dear Friends in Christ:

I am writing to request information regarding prescribed Birth Control pills for reasons other than fertility. My friend says it is okay to take these if you are not sexually active and believes pharmacists ought to be forced, by law to dispense these.

Can anybody please help? I need a succint and definitive answer in 500 words or less. Is that possible?

Thank you so much.

God Bless in your Ministry,
Terry Lynn Madeleine Dillon

P.S. I have a daughter who is a Sophomore at Ave Maria University … !

You can use “those pills” as prescribed for a medical condition. Once you start having sexual relations then it becomes sinful. I would research if there are other medications that can be used, especially with the acne.

Yep, there is no problem with that use of the pills. Many pills can be prescribed for many different things.

Humanae Vitae says:
  1. On the other hand, the Church does not consider at all illicit the use of those therapeutic means necessary to cure bodily diseases, even if a foreseeable impediment to procreation should result there from—provided such impediment is not directly intended for any motive whatsoever.
