Does anyone know where I can find more information on the link between early abortions and birth control pills. I am looking for both Catholic and non-Catholic sources. Especially those sources which have scientific backing or doctor’s endorsements. This question came up after talking to my cousins, who protestant, who claimed she read a book by a “christian” doctor saying the link has not been proven. Thanks in advance.

You can also just go right to the source. Yasmin, for instance, has a site for physician prescribing info. At the bottom of the first page it says, “Although the primary mechanism of this action is inhibition of ovulation, other alterations include changes in cervical mucus, (which increases the difficulty of sperm entry into the uterus) and the endometrium (which reduces the likelihood of implantation.)

So that would mean, to me, that there may be instances where the woman actually did get pregnant, and her fertilized egg was unable to implant because of the pill. That would be an abortion in my eyes. I asked my father about this, who is a doctor (although does not have to deal with reproductive issues in his practice). He was also a pharmacist before becoming a doctor, so he has a pretty good understanding of the chemistry, etc., and he also agreed that it would be an abortion - maybe not how it would be done in a clinic, but it is still killing the baby with the help of a drug. Now, more often than not, if the woman was taking this pill correctly, she wouldn’t get pregnant, BUT even if a woman wasn’t Catholic and didn’t believe in abortion, just the chance of something like that happening to a potential life isn’t a chance worth taking.
