There are people on both sides who want to prevent reconcillation, namely the sedevacantist and modernist bishops.

Firstly, the fact that the Society is asking to be received in audience by the Holy Father does not mean that it is on the point of betraying. If there is no contact between Tradition and Rome, now will the truth of Tradition ever make itself heard in Rome? Secondly, there being a contact does not mean that an agreement is possible. Let all the Catholics who dream of fitting together Catholic Tradition and the present neo-modernist authorities of the Church come back down to earth. Catholic Authority and Catholic Truth will one day re-unite, but nothing for the moment indicates that that day is tomorrow – or the day after!
As if they were seperate…

I pray that an agreement can be reached.:gopray:

They’ll talk and be cordial, but I don’t think an agreement is likely at all.

A large percentage of the SSPX folks feel that the Latin mass is the only way to go. Even if Fellay came to an agreement , how many of those folks would follow him? They would all have to be convinced individually as well.

I don’t see it a return of the SSPX due to a single meeting, it would have to be a process.

It could be a start!

We should all be praying, ALL.

This has a better chance than the Russian Orthodox who spit in our faces.

Hey, I’m not a SSPXer and I think the Classical Roman Rite Mass is the only way to go. The longer I attend the new Mass, the more convinced I am of the superiority of the Old Rite.

Leeta,
I too am not a SSPXer, but I am in FULL agreement that the Traditional Latin Mass (Mass of Pius V) is superior to the Pauline Mass (Novus Ordo) on every single level. Even a Latin filled EWTN Mass can’t compare.

Why has the Church been crumbling since 1965? Start with Her liturgy!

More Catholic unity is the first step to more global Christian unity. 🙂

Hopefully the meeting will go well and we will have more Tridentine Latin Masses available for us to attend. :clapping:

Please keep us informed. :tiphat:

I believe Pope Benedict and “Bishop” Fellay have met before and nothing has come of those meetings.

I hope and pray that Bishop Felly (who is a vallidly ordained bishop - illict but valid) as representing those of SSPX will return to the Church. However, I think we should remember that while the Mass is the biggest issue, there are other issues, such as ecumenism, that has move them (SSPX)to seperate from the Church

The mock quotes are quite rude, Bishop Fellay is a bishop. Have a little optimism will ya.

What’s with the inverted commas around the word bishop?

Bishop Fellay is a validly consecrated Bishop, and Rome recognises that fact.

Triumpha.

Let’s pray that Bishop Fellay and his followers see the error into which they’ve lapsed and return to the fullness of faith that has never departed from the Church. It’s true that there are greater difficulties than the Mass. They’ve little or nothing good to say about the Council and that has to be reckoned with. I’m not saying that they have trouble with the “spirit of the Council,” I’m saying they have trouble with the Council itself. The pope will never repudiate VII and I really think that’s what Bishop Fellay et al wants.

Illegally consecrated, illicitly consecrated, whose every sacramental action is a deeper spiral into disobedience. They are valid, but not licit, and they have no faculties, either to give to the priests under them or to use themselves.

Does anyone know when the meeting between Pope Benedict XVI and Bishop Fellay of SSPX will take place? :hmmm:

I heard that is would be at the end of August.
