Just an interesting tidbit.

The name Lucifer was not applied to Satan until quite late, sometime after Jerome’s (d. 420) use of the word in his translation of Isaiah into Latin.

This is attested to by the fact that there was BISHOP named Lucifer in the 4th century. He was a sort of ultra-Catholic Traditionalist against the Arians.

Imagine a Catholic bishop named Lucifer nowadays! The Fundamentalist anti-Catholics would have field day! 😃

If I remeber right Lucifer is Latin for “light bringer” and also used to refer to the planet Venus.

Luciferi of Cagliari was famous Nicean Symbol advocate who caused much trouble in Church of Antioch. Founded his own small section of Luciferians who wanted severity for those who did not adhere to Nicean Symbol and oppose Arianism. Interestingly, he was exiled for a time in Syria to birth place of Nestorius of Constantinople.
