Father John was a friend of my dad’s. They went to Highschool together at St Thomas in Houston. It is so strange that he died almost 20 years to the day that my father passed.
 
Eternal rest grant unto your good servant Bishop McCarthy, and also the OP’s father, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Perhaps Father John and your dad are now meeting up in Heaven. Let’s hope so.
 
I have always said that there is a good chance my dad is in purgatory. I pray for him often to get his pardon. When they were in school my dad told me that he and father john would steal cars and go joy riding, remember to park it back where they got it. To often willing to get into trouble but bet it made confession easier on sunday.
 
May God have mercy for on his soul, and grant comfort to his family and loved ones.

Get your Dad some plenary indulgences and, if possible, Gregorian Masses.

It is amusing to think of a bishop as a teenager stealing cars and going joy riding 🙂
