That’s my Bishop!

Here’s the Catholic Sun Article (my diocesan newspaper)

Personal story about me and Bishop Olmsted.

It was after a priest vs seminarian basketball game. I’ve been having doubts about the faith recently (I guess I still occasionally do). I tracked down Bishop Olmsted. I talked to Bishop Olmsted and asked him about my doubts. Like a good shepherd, Bishop Olmsted reassured me. He told me, “Doubts aren’t uncommon. It happens. Even Mother Teresa had doubts. Sometimes it’s our fault. Other times God permits it so that we can grow stronger in faith. It’s important to talk to a good spiritual director about your doubts.” He also told me that it’s good to pray, “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief”.

Bishop Olmsted helped reassure me in that time of doubt, especially with him telling me that even Mother Teresa, a woman of strong faith, had doubts.

I must confess, during that time period of doubt, I think I really understood what it meant to be childlike in faith, to understand that I must have radical trust in God.
