If the Bishops are installed by the Holy Spirit-The question beckons, as in this case and others where Bishops have been found to be taking money and involved in improper behavior-How is this explained? And if they have done improper things, why do so many on this board, when faced with liturgical abuse expect that by going to your Bishop it will get solved?

A whistleblower Catholic priest who says his bishop is persecuting him because of his activism against homosexuals in the priesthood appeared yesterday in front of an ecclesiastical court near Catholic University.
The Rev. James Haley, 48, a priest in the Diocese of Arlington, appeared before a panel of judges and canon lawyers for a final hearing in a case brought against him by Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde. The case has lasted more than three years.
The priest submitted five volumes of documents bolstering his contention that the Catholic priesthood is heavily weighted with homosexuals.

http://images.washtimes.com/images/...fhttp://images.washtimes.com/images/clear.gif “All I am doing is trying to get an answer to a very complicated question,” Father Haley said Tuesday. “Is it moral, proper and prudent to ordain homosexual priests?”
Bishop Thomas G. Doran of Rockford, Ill., is presiding over the case, which will be forwarded for judgment to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican, headed by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.
Bishop Loverde has lodged several charges against the priest for sexual misconduct in a case that began in the fall of 2001. He ordered Father Haley silenced and removed him from parish ministry.
The priest denied the sexual-misconduct charges, then revealed in a July 24, 2002, deposition filed in Arlington County Circuit Court a lengthy account of adultery and homosexual affairs among certain priests in the Northern Virginia diocese.
Bishop Loverde then charged Father Haley with wrongfully revealing information to the press, and turned over the case to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Father Haley appeared before an ecclesiastical court in March in Philadelphia, and at least two other secret hearings have been held involving witnesses for the accused priest and his bishop. Yesterday’s hearing was the first time he was deposed by church lawyers, Father Haley said.
“To this day, no one has asked me anything. I think that waiting three years for any trial is ridiculous,” he said Tuesday.
A diocesan spokesman declined comment on the case because it had been forwarded to the Vatican.

God has a permissive will and an ordaining will. I would imagine there will always be some men who are ordained by His permitting will. There have been plenty of traitors in the Church over time.

I read about the same thing inthe New Oxford Review two months ago. It occured in Arizona. A priest spoke out and he is to be on trial.

Do these Bishops realise that their actions damage the church hundreds of miles from their Diosces. What will the verdict be after they die?

Where is the church on these matters-More cases?
What do the Bishops do-Why are Homosexuals allowed to be priests in the first place? Note when most of the new cases were from 1965-And what Council ended in 1965?

,092 new sex claims against priests, deacons

The report, issued by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, states that most of the incidents occurred between 1965 and 1974, and that 72 percent of the offenders are either dead, left the ministry or have been removed.

More than 96 percent of Roman Catholic dioceses - including all five in Minnesota - are compliant with recently established policies to stop sexual abuse by priests and church staff, according to the report.

Seven out of 194 dioceses audited in 2004 were found to not be compliant with the policies, which is an improvement over last year’s 20 non-compliant groups.

“While a measurable amount of progress has been made, much more is required, but nothing that is beyond our ability,” said Kathleen McChesney, executive director of the organization’s Office of Children and Youth Protection.

McChesney also cautioned that “compliance does not guarantee that there will be no instances of abuse in the future or that every victim or accused offender is treated justly.”

This is the second year the organization has issued a report on the progress church officials are making to stop sexual abuse. The policies used in the report are part of the “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People”, which was drafted in June 2002. Archbishop Harry Flynn, of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis played a role in drafting the charter.

BulldogCath,

If this is true, then decrease in the number of noncomplient dioceses is heartening. But just one lax Bishop stands out like a sore thumb, and damages thousands of his flock.

Hi Bulldog__,

Bishops are not installed by the Holy Spirit. They are nominated by the Pope and then consecrated. Like the pope, they are not impeccable and can make personal errors. Infallibility is a prerogative of the Church, not of the individual bishops. It is vested in the consensus of the bishops as well as, in a personal manner in the Pope, when he appeals to it.

All of us - ordained or not - should strive to live by the Holy Spirit. All of us - ordained or not - are human beings, stained by Original Sin. The Holy Spirit inspires and guides those who recommend the Priests who are to become Bishops. Whether those who nominate Priests to be Bishops are listening to the Holy Spirit is another story.

Usually three are nominated by local priests and bishops. The names are then forwarded to the Vatican and one is usually selected from the list.

Thank you verbum

I had another Poster say that the Bishop was infallible as he was a direct descendent from the Apostles who were the first Bishops

This guy is most fortunate. Several centuries ago he would be in the lowest level of the Prince Archbishop’s fortress meeting the iron maiden or being made taller.
