On another thread a while ago, someone quoted a passage from one of Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich’s writings (or the writings of the individual who wrote her dictations) regarding the curse of Ham and the origin of “black” skin. I can’t provide the quotation, but it deeply disturbed me when I read it. I know that various Protestant groups taught at one point or another that the various African peoples were cursed with “dark skin” because of the sin of Ham, but I didn’t think this was ever a prevalent view in Catholic circles. I know we are not bound by private revelation, if this quote is even legit… but regardless, does anyone have any background information? It was allegedly from a vision in which the Blessed saw the effects of this “curse” gradually “worsen” as skin became darker and darker. Sorry I can’t provide more context.

Genetically, scientifically, its pretty overwhelming that all mankind originated from Africa and I would assume that lighter skin is the anomaly rather than the other way round…

I agree we are not bound to believe private revelations. However, please be aware that the revelations of Anne Emmerich are NOT approved by the Church.
In fact Anne Emmerich did not write a single word. The books were written by Clemems Brentanto who used to visit her. The Vatican does not endorse the authenticity of the books written by Brentano
