Blade Runner (1982) is my absolute favorite movie of all time. I even had the fortune of watching in a cinema last year and it was all the more amazing, in fact I almost cried of excitement.

It’d be great if we could have a discussion about any Christian themes you guys find in Blade Runner

The film is based on Phillip K Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep”. While that is a novel that I enjoined and have read more than once, I would not suggest his work to anyone. Mr. Dick was a deeply troubled man, there were times when he himself thought he was possessed. He was a deeply troubled man at best, the disillusionment shows in his writing. I pray often for the repose of his soul.

Yes but the film is masterpiece beyond words. The book falls very short of the film, in my opinion.

He was? I didn’t know that. I pray for him too.
I prefer the book to the movie even though I enjoyed the movie. The blade runner in the book is a way more complex character than what Ridley Scott did in the movie imho and so are the rest of characters. He was supposed to embody the average man with many frustrations in life who only worries about making extra money to keep his wife. He ends up asking himself questions due to circumstances yet he cannot overcome his condition as mediator and spectator even until the end. I think it was an alter-ego of the author now that you say the writer thought he was possessed as in he wasn’t himself.

I still haven’t watched this film or the new one yet. When searching for new science fiction films to watch, blade runner is usually on the list. But for some reason i just never get round to watching them. I guess I’m worried that they’re overrated films.

The second one I consider a personal insult to me as a fan of the original. But the original is very deep, very beautiful, with a wonderful aesthetic and of course the one and only Harrison Ford.

Watched the first movie years ago and watched the new one last night. It tugged on my heartstrings.

What does it mean to be human? This search for meaning is implanted by God in every single one of us.

I have the director’s cut of the original with Harrison Ford, but its been a while since I watched it. I think it may have two endings. Anyway, as a Tolkien fan, the androids remind me of the dwarves who were created by Aulë, but given life by Ilúvatar. I would hope God will be as generous when the time comes in our world.

Now that the Technological Singularity is becoming more real every year, its something to think about.

A technological singularity could lead to an intelligence explosion. That could be preeetty dangerous. We better be careful. I’ve also heard people have found a way to clone humans

I watched Blade Runner a few years ago. I was irritated. Too much of it didn’t seem to make sense.

I don’t believe a technological singularity will ever actually happen. Deep down, all humans need meaning and don’t want machines/ technology to make us meaningless or useless. I think the human race will subconsciously cooperate to block a singularity before it happens.
