I’ve been having mental health problems lately and lately when I wake up during the night (bathroom, etc) I’ve had problems with violent negative emotions and blasphemous thoughts such as “It’s impossible for me to overcome my sins. God has damned me,” and so on. And I’m reminded that despite persistent prayer I haven’t made much progress. Prayer during the night does nothing to keep the thoughts at bay but when I wake up I feel more normal, except for a lot of guilt and a nagging worry I’ve sinned mortally. Any advice?
Keep praying anyway.
I don’t always sleep well, due to various health reasons.
On top of that, we have a 20 year old kitty with various health issues of her own. She is very restless, and I watch her carefully. She doesn’t sleep well herself anymore, and she’ll often wake me up while I’m sleeping.
I’ll pray to my Guardian Angel for help with protection and comfort. God provided the Angels to us, to help us and to guide us.
There is also the St. Michael the Archangel prayer, and the Chaplet of St. Michael the Archangel, too. In the Chaplet of St. Michael, you are also addressing the other choirs of angels. I’ll post a link to it here, in case you would like to take a look at it.
EWTN also put out a lovely video of Mother Angelica praying the Chaplet, too.
God bless you. I know what it’s like to be awake at night. I’ll say some prayers for you that you may find peace.
