I ran across a website where monks are making and selling wooden urns.
Part of their promotion is a free cross where they state it is blessed by a monk and they bless the urn too.

My question what is the value of any item being blessed by either a nun or brother or monk.
I’m guessing the value of such blessing would not exceed the blessing given by Rick Santorum or either Newt Gingrich both of whom are Catholic, presumably in good standing, and running for president.

Although my Aunt Sally can whip up a household blessing better than most.

Many monks are priests and could offer the same blessings any other priest could offer.

Wow! With that answer I should have never asked.
Except that is pretty much a given(or well known) within the Catholic populace.
Furthermore, most non-priestly religious orders are fairly bereft of priests.
Next!

I understand that a priest can be also a monk and vice a versa, I’ve always gotten that.
My question is not about the urn, the trappists etc, its about what I quoted above!

WOW!!! you are really rude!

Anyone can give a blessing, the question relates to whether religous order blessings outside of priests amount to anything more than a lay blessing.

Wikipedia is pretty simple on this topic.

Nice answer.
So the laity can bless God and other people, but they cannot bless objects.
I’ll stuff that into my cranium and verify it. Thanks.

I really wonder what this book is all about
usccbpublishing.org/productdetails.cfm?sku=5-645
and when I take holy water and bless my house ??? well its not a religious article
nor is an urn specifically, to my best guess.

from the original link, these are trappists monks, they are not priest and that is to what
the question pertains.
Monks can be priests. Some monks at each monastery will always be priests so that the community of Brothers can have Mass, confession, annoint their sick and recieve the other sacraments. Being a monk does not mean that one is prohibited from being a priest. A community of Trappist Monks is an independent, self-supporting community, and will always have monks who are also priests. They rarely leave the monastery, and without monks who are also priests, they would not be able to have Mass.

It is actualy difficult to tell which Brothers are priest and which are not, and that is because of the way Benedictine monastic communites are structured.

Take for example, the Trappist community here in Conyers, Georgia at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. There are about 40 monks and about 14 or 15 of those are priests. If you ask them however, they will tell you that they are Brothers first. They are only priests to serve their community of Brothers.
You don’t join a Trappist monastery to be a priest. You join a Trappist monastery to be a brother first, to be a member of the community first, to live under the rule of St. Benedict first, to give your life to God and to be close to God first, and then priests are selected from among the brothers to serve the communitie’s sacramental needs.

If you looked at the brothers, you would not know which is a priest and which is not until they gather for Mass at 7:00 AM. Then you will see who is vested as a priest and who remains in the habit of the monk. There is even one deacon at the Holy Spirit Monastery. But the brotherhood comes first, and other than Mass and the sacraments, there is little difference between a Brother and a Brother/Father. Even seniority at a Trappist monastery is based on the date each entered the monastery, not on whether one is a priest or not. A monk who is not a priest but has been at the monastery for 10 years will get on line for meals before a monk/priest who has been at the monastery for only five years.

When I was at the monastery, a priest/monk was scaping off the plates and trays of the other monks and the men on retreat. A priest who had confected the Eucharist at 7:30 AM was washing dishes while everyone else ate lunch! It was really weird to hand my dirty dishes to a priest. It didn’t feel right, but that’s because he is a brother first, a priest second.

I don’t know if monks who are not priests can bless. I don’t think so. But a monk who is a priest can definityly bless.

There is nothing special about a blessing given by a religious. Female religious and male religious who aren’t ordained can only give the same blessings as lay people. Male religious who are ordained can give the same blessings as all sacred ministers. The monks who bless these items must be priest-monks because religious artefacts must be blessed by a priest. So there is nothing of any value different from it being blessed by a priest-monk than the priest at your local church.

If you pay me, I will give you a good answer and you may demand a good reply.
As what you are getting is FREE OF CHARGE, demanding your way answers seems to me that you are the King of Ireland.

I had a good answer but do not feel like giving it to you free of charge…
