Blessed "Objects"

Another silly question from a curious non-Catholic who will soon take the plunge into the Tiber

What does it really mean when something is blessed by a priest (or anybody else in the priesthood)? My wife and I have rosary’s that were given to us by a priest. Besides being blessed by a priest, what is the difference between these rosary’s, and a rosary I bought myself without getting blessed?

And the rosary is just an example I’m using here, my question applies to anything blessed by a priest, etc (homes, water, etc)

I apalogize in advance for the elementary type questions…I promise for my next question, I won’t ask if Santa Claus is real.

I could probably wait until RCIA to learn this, but again, I’m impatient. Thanks!

Don’t apologyze. Each time you ask a question whether it is simple or complicated, some Catholics, including me, will learn and search the answer. As a cradle Catholic, I know and believe about our Catholic faith, but when one asked a simple question, I might get problem how to explain it; thus, this allows me to search for a good answer, and in return, I learn how to answer it next time.

As a cradle Catholic, I know and believe about our Catholic faith, but when one asked a simple question, I might get problem how to explain it; thus, this allows me to search for a good answer, and in return, I learn how to answer it next time.

I’m glad it also mentions the sign of the cross on there. My wife, along with all of her family, are Catholic, so they always do the sign of the cross. I’m always tempted to do it when I pray, but I feel like I’m trespassing or something since I’m not Catholic yet, so I’m hesitant. I guess I have a lot to learn. The link you provided shows me that it’s okay for me to do the sign of the cross. And the way it’s explained on there makes it more than just “going through the motions”(head/mind…chest/heart…shoulders/strengh)…how beautiful! Score another one for the Catholic church:thumbsup:

You can do many things as Catholics do except receiving Holy Communions and few sacraments such as Confirmation … and few others (I don’t know what you say in English).I am sure someone here will be able to tell you.
