I recently received in the mail what I would normally call junk mail from a religious order asking for money (somehow my address got out… I receive requests like this 3-4 times a week). This one, however, included a little packet of blessed sacramental oil. What can I use this for? I know I can’t throw it out since it’s blessed.

There really is no use for “blessed oil” by laypersons. Honestly, it sounds like something from the Pentecostal Protestants (growing up I did not know people actually ate/cooked with olive oil as I only saw it as “healing anointing oil” used in prayer meetings)

The Sacramental Anointing of the Sick is reserved to Priests/Bishops etc.

I understand that, but you could still use it if it is already blessed and make the sign of the cross and say a prayer for healing or another intention.
I have received blessed oil before in the mail.

You might transfer it to a fine crystal bottle, build a wooden reliquary and place the oil vessel inside. It might be nice to place the reliquary in a prominent place atop a cloth-covered marble pedestal. Adding accent lighting, a spotlight, a few beeswax candles and some flowers could also be nice. That way, you’ll have the oil if you should ever need it.

ON the contrary, We had a parish healing mission during Advent and the visiting Priest blessed oil for home use.

I don’t know if I would use it. If I didn’t order it (and even if I did, it can’t be blessed and sold anyways) I would be highly suspicious of it.

Um, who said it was sacramental?
It was an Augustinian priest who specializes in healing ministry.
The Mission was very good.

I once got some anointing oil from Rev. Ewing’s Church-by-Mail.™

True story. It came with a letter instructing me to take the largest denomination of bill from my wallet, anoint it with the oil, and mail it to the good Reverend.

I didn’t.

I would use it as well, and would pray with it, too. But, that’s me, and what I would do.

If you’re not comfortable using it @greenrangerx, then you don’t have to use it.

I personally would welcome anything that was touched to a relic of St. Padre Pio, but that’s me again. 🙂

God bless you! 🙂

I got some, used it on a lady’s knees at the parish because she was in severe pain. It was a padre Pio oil that was spoken about in this thread. Well, for the next few weeks she was so much better and pain eased up so much that she was able to help with vocation bible school. So, I guess its the intention of the use and the Graces you hope for…
