Hi All,

I am new to this forum, I am not very sure if this is the right place to post about, so please bear with me 🙂

I am in RCIA right now, and I am planning to purchase a rosary necklace so that I can start practicing my faith. To my concern, I find a couple of online gift shops which offers the option to have the necklace blessed by the pope (sunday audience) (after the buyer has purchased it (at no extra cost). So is this anyway of committing simony? and is the blessing still retained after they have delivered it to me?

Thanks a lot!

no it is not simony. yes it retains the blessing if blessed after you purchase it.

but, you can buy a rosary locally and your priest can bless it.

Something you get for free cannot be simony.

Any priest can give blessings just the same as the Pope.

Simony is the selling of the blessing. not the object.
To sell an Item for $2 normal and $10 blessed would be simony.
