Blessed Sacrament question?

The hospital where I work has a main chapel, with a very small private Blessed Sacrament chapel to the side of it.
the Blessed Sacrament Chapel has a few kneeler chairs, alter with the tabernakle and a red light that was on above it (should I assume since the lite was on that the Body of Christ is present ?) I couldn’t find anyone around so I went in to pray the Rosary…it was soooo peacefull and quiet.
I saw the Chaplin today and he told me the preist only comes two days a week and he said the red light is always on.
Is there any other prayers to pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament?
Is the Chaplet of Devine Mercy one of them?

Hi Kayla, I used to volounteer at a hospital with a chapel and every night before I began I would spend time in prayer. It really energized me for helping the injured, sick and dieing.

A red candle near the Tabernacle indicates that Christ is present. The chapel may be using a red light instead…not sure if that’s technically allowed or not but that’s another matter.

Pretty much anything that you would like to say to Jesus can and should be said in front of the Tabernacle, because it is Christ present there. The Chaplet of the Divine Mercy is a beautiful and appropriate prayer to use.

Divine Mercy chaplet is fine.

You might try getting a copy of “Praying in the Presence of Our Lord” (or any of the other books in that series), which is filled with great meditations, readings, and prayers selected specifically for the purpose of praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

Might be a fire regulation or something. You know, you can also just sit there & talk to Jesus. It’s amazing how it will change you!

I keep forgetting that…sometimes I think I should be formal about prayer and have a plan when I’m in his presence… however , I probably should humble myself before him and really open my heart.

Some hospital chapels have electric sanctuary lamps because people come in with oxygen tanks, which could be ignited in the presence of flame. It’s a remote danger, but I guess they’re being extra careful.

BTW, I second the suggestion to just sit and talk with Jesus - and listen, too.

I have a full time job and volunteer on Mon., Wed., and Friday right after work at the Mary Joseph Home for the elderly. When I am finished there at about 7:30 PM I visit their Chapel. I usually stay about 45 minutes. My problem is I am usually so sleepy that sometimes I seem to nod off for a few seconds. Sometimes to stay awake and as a form of prayer I sing some of the songs from the hymnbook. There is never anyone else in the Chapel at this time. I am new to Eucharistic Adoration and still am not sure what is proper. Sometimes I pray the Rosary, sometimes I read for a book I find in the pew, sometime I just talk to Jesus and tell Him how my day went or ask Him for some special prayer I would like Him to answer. I try to remember to thank Him for the things He has done for me. I always find the Lord’s house peaceful and comforting no mater what kind of a day I have had.

You can start by reminding yourself that you are in the presence of Almighty God who created everything out of nothing – from the tinest sub-atomic particle to the vast cosmos and beyond and this is the same God who humbled Himself to take on our human form and suffer & die a horrible death for our sake to demonstrate the depth of His love for us.

You can start your prayer by thanking Him and try to just submerse [sp] yourself completely within His love seeking His mercy & forgiveness for any offenses that you might have committed against Him.
