I am very new to Catholicism and I am hoping and praying that I am able to take part in an RCIA course this year (covid dependant) so I can be confirmed and receive my first communion. 🙏

I have a question about Holy Water and blessing my home.

I have a few prayers already lined up and have had blessed my home already, but my question is:

How many times can or should I bless my home; once a week, once a month, once a year, etc, etc?

Thanks in advance and God Bless 😃

I don’t think there’s an official directive on this. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Not that my household could be held up as any kind of example (we’re way too dysfunctional for that), but we bless ourselves with Holy Water at the beginning of our day and before we go to bed and I put blessed salt at the corners of the house outside once a month while I pray some prayers. That may seem silly, I don’t know…but there’s been peace in our house so I’m going to keep doing it. Maybe a rule of thumb is when you think you need it? You can always do it more or less, accordingly. Again, someone correct me if I’m wrong. And, last but not least, WELCOME HOME!!! 🙂

@lwest

Thank you 😃 I do very feel much that I am home!

I am the only Catholic in my entirely family, including my immediate family, financee is supportive of this which massively helps!
That may seem silly
With the above I wouldn’t say that at all. There is definitely a cleansing feeling I felt after I flicking the Holy Water throughout my home 🙂

I also have a little Holy Water font and definitely bless myself and sign the cross every morning and evening and throughout the day.

Maybe your fiance will follow you home. 🙂 Be that light and don’t despair when the Catholic honeymoon is over. God may make changes in your life. Just surrender and trust no matter what happens. (speaking from experience here)

I only know the rule in the Eastern tradition, which is that priests come to bless their parishioners’ homes once a year around Theophany (Jan 6th). This involves them going through the house (upstairs, downstairs, bedrooms, living rooms, etc.) and throwing holy water onto the walls while everyone chants:

Maybe you can contact a local priest to do this?

Absolutely… I have already been told by a couple of Catholics that I have met that the beginning part of the journey is like the honeymoon you describe, but there will also be some tough times ahead which will be tougher, but I do need to put my trust in God 🙂

Thank you for this. I am hopefully arranging in a couple of weeks to have a sit down with my Priest to officially meet one another and for him to find out where I am on this journey so far.

This will probably be a good time to mention about home blessings. We’ve only briefly talked after Mass for a couple of minutes each time.

Just remember, Christ suffered more than all of us combined. He carried His cross for us and we are asked to carry our cross for Him. Pray, fast, stand firm. It’s all worth it.

and then the poor priests have to diet almost until Lent to recover!
 😱

I recall our prior priest just about pleading that it wasn’t necessary to make a meal for his visit, and that he couldn’t possibly eat that much!

Agreed - now when our priest does house blessings, we all just meet at the last person’s house and have the meal in her dining room.
