Blessings: African-American Prophetesses Movement

There is a movement in the United States which is growing pretty rapidly. SOME African-American women are calling themselves (besides Pastors) “prophetesses”

If one gives you a blessing, I tried to see it alongside: John 9:38-41, which requires a miracle to be performed but I don’t know that there was or not, the scripture suggests that John 40: “who is not against us is for us.”

It’s a pretty mixed up situation, and it seems non-denominational Christians are interested. Pretty interesting.

Why? There’s some odd beliefs out there, compared to Mormonism (a.k.a: Scientology-lite) this stuff is pretty tame.
 
Science and Catholicism broke some ground together in an article… this is kinda different…
 
Yep that’s true! I remember as a kid growing up in the black church we had a prophet visit. He laid his hands on each member and would announce the prophecy the Lord gave him regarding our lives. Some people got some embarrassing counsel like, “The lord is showing me that you have dirty posters on the wall, take them down.” :roll_eyes: My prophecy still hasn’t come to pass 😂. Now there are women prophetess getting in on the action. Oh lawd.
 
😂 I’m laughing pretty hard here. We can’t always help who we run into, right? The Oracle from the Matrix shows up when you least expect it!

And I left the black church for Islam which is a story in and of itself. But yes praise God i’ve been Catholic as of Easter 2017. 😍

I hadn’t heard much about the prophetess movement, but I’ve noticed many African-American women call themselves “blessed and highly favored.” Growing up in a Black Baptist Church, and even just daily living in the South, people might say they’re “blessed” if you ask how they are. But “blessed and highly favored?” It nearly seems offensive since that is a title given to the Blessed Mother. But part of me tries to meet them where they are if I hear it, and I still manage to smile a little.
 
Detroit has a bad rep with me because nobody used C4 on the satanic statue, but I didn’t destroy it either so I guess I’m not one to talk

That statue creeps me out. But Apparently, Detroit has a very large Satanist chapter smh.
 
I don’t think it’s just “African American”. Many Pentecostal / Charismatic movements have prophets, prophetesses, Apostles, etc.
 
Are you implying Science and Catholicism are somehow contradictory?

Catholicism correctly understood and Science which is true are complimentary, not contradictory.

The whole science vs. religion controversy is a false dichotomy originating with the evil one. Modern science grew out of Catholicism.

You like biology? Thank the Catholic Church. You like astronomy? Thank the Catholic Church. You use the scientific method? Thank the Church who vouchsafed it to us. You like the big bang theory? Thank the Catholic Priest who formulated it. You study science at a University? Thank the Catholic Church who gave us the University system.

I could go on and on and on.

I just heard a coworker say that today, in response to how are you.
She said “greatly blessed and highly favored”
She’s a God-fearing woman I’ve worked with for years…

This brought a smile to my face because I haven’t heard this saying in quite awhile. 😍
