I just went to a men’s encounter that dealt with this issue. As a Catholic I have a duty to investigate my faith using scripture and a good confessor (Priest). My parish has healing Masses and services. I was reading Deuteronomy Ch. 28 and indeed the Pastor that ran this encounter was correct in his suggestion and discerning of generational “Curses” but that in Christ these too are defeated. The problem we as Catholics face is simple: Are we open enough to (A) take no offense at others healing in Christ’s name? And (B) Is there (other Christians beliefs correct and in line with the Mother Churches teachings
I did allow the Pastor to pray over me and felt something lift from my Soul. I do believe we allow this negative spirit(s) to infect our Souls by SIN and yes there may be some truth to a our genealogy as far as a tendency towards a particular trait (EX: Alcoholism etc.) but and its a BIG BUT …God would not have gave us his only Son if the old covenant with Israel was to remain the same. Here is a good thread I found on the subject-http://www.catholicdoors.com/isit/isit12.htm
This is a book that visits the subject from a Christian (Not Catholic viewpoint) SHADOW BOXING

…but again as others have said words do have real power to hurt and help. That’s a choice we make.
