Can extraordinary ministers bless children? I know quite a few parishes where they do that. Is it common everywhere now?

Partly its troublesome because in this case we are talking about children. There is always a baby in my arms. And I’ve got 15 year old emhc fawning over my child and “blessing” them and touching them etc. Which really only ordained people, and parents and godparents really have authority to confer a blessing anyway. Even more troublesome is if there is a blessing by the priest on a person or people at Mass and everyone stretches out their hands like some kind of salute…

Please, speak to the pastor. This EMHC needs more training. They have to have focus on the Chiborum they hold, not on touching and fawning over babies (the cutest babies in the world I am sure!)

And, I am not certain and don’t have the books here, but, I would have sworn 16 was the minimum age for an EMHC. Anyone have a GIRM/RS handy?

16 is usually the “legal adult age” in the Catholic Church to be a sponsor or vote in elections for parish council etc.

I’m sorry. I’ve made this issue about me. There is way more to it than speaking to the pastor. It cannot be solved like that it’s too widespread and ingrained. Carry on…
