*“The Bold and the Beautiful” revealed that a female character, played by a woman for the last two years, is transgender. The surprise is taking the long-running CBS daytime drama to a new level, reports “Entertainment Tonight” co-host Kevin Frazier …

For the actress, this revelation is an opportunity to both entertain and educate her audience.

“They’re now basically going through this kind of disclosure process as each of the characters on the show are,” Mosley said. "If I’ve loved this character for so long, why is this changing the way that I feel now?

At this point in the “The Bold and the Beautiful” storyline, there’s still an important person who doesn’t know Maya was born male – her boyfriend, Rick Forrester.

“It’s brave. It’s brave of CBS,” Mosley said. “We’re excited and we’re standing behind it and we feel that it’s important.”*CBS

Let me help write this story a little better:
“It’s brave. It’s brave of CBS,” Mosley said…
…about the company who pays her salary for doing what every other show is doing and getting praised for.

Every other show isn’t doing it, of course.
And not every other daytime drama (Is there another soap opera that has a transgender character?).

TV shows, especially soap operas, have been using the same storylines over and over for the last 60 years.

It is indeed “brave” of CBS to have a character like this…especially if they risk being persecuted by some for doing so.

TV and film is meant to reflect what is going on in society around us. This issue is very prevalent and talked about and on the front pages of newspapers and magazines. It makes sense to have a character like this.

Do you think they should not? If not, then why not?

.
Every other show isn’t doing it but it’s becoming a popular trend to include transgender and homosexual or bisexual characters and make their orientation or gender identity known in order to make a political statement. If you ask me, it’s propaganda.

Yeah. It’s not exactly “brave” to follow the latest trends. Modern Family, One Big Happy, Ellen Degeneres, etc.

It’s rather slavish, if you ask me. As a loyal son of the Church I will not - I refuse - be squeezed into the false dilemma of being either a godless humanist or a flaming, raging fundamentalist. That is an insult not only to the Church, not only to God, but to real freethinkers - who will not be pressed to dilemmas unless absolutely necessary.

LGBT people are part of our society, part of our culture and they are coming out of the shadows.
That this would be reflected in shows does not surprise me.

I dont agree with those who are overthetop in their political agenda. That is true for anyone with an over the top politiical agenda.

But I have no desire to shove them back into the shadows or the closets, again either.
I would just prefer to treat them with the God given dignity that God gives all of us. 🤷

Maybe in a way…it’s not a bad thing? Maybe if this sort of situation gets more exposure everyone will realize how unusual, infrequent, such a tiny fractional marginal segment of the population it represents, and eventually we’ll all just ignore it because it’s essentially meaningless.

No, they will be lauded and win awards for portraying sexual deviancies as normal, just like they’ve done with heterosexual promiscuity for decades in their scripts.

“It’s brave. It’s brave of CBS,” Mosley said.
Brave? To make use of what is now becoming a protected class?

On the contrary, it is quite cowardly. They don’t have the bravery to counter or oppose the distortions of human sexuality. There is no bravery in doing what the society is only capable of approving.

The only people who are brave in this society are those who stick to their principles regardless of how popular or protected a new idea is.

You may call it a trend. Other people call it reflecting society and the world around us. And acknowledging the desire of viewers to see more diversity and tackle a new topic.
It’s not necessarily a “political statement”–especially if the characters around this transgender character are a mixture of those who support it and those who don’t.
That’s like saying…if they put in a Catholic priest as a character, that’s propaganda! When the reality is…a character may be born and raised in a certain city that is populated by many Catholics.

Many shows may have a homosexual character…but look around you: Most people have a friend or family member or colleague who is homosexual. So it makes perfect sense to include a homosexual character in a cast of characters on TV.

.
I have no problems with characters being gay/bi/whatever as long as it’s done well. Unfortunately, it’s usually not. I have yet to see a show that actually does this realistically. Most of the time, it ends up being an hour long sermon about how whatever is normal and everyone should support it. I don’t watch TV to get lectured by fictional characters. (This is the same reason I hate a lot of Christian movies too)

The producers and writers ARE sticking to their principles.

And of course this group of people should be “protected”–just like anyone else is.

As you can see, many film and TV producers do not consider these characters as being “sexually distorted” but a minority who have unique struggles as we all do. And they will reflect them.

You don’t seem to approve of it.
Then how can you say society “approves” it when you know there are many who do not?

.
It’s very interesting how you cherry-pick certain words out of my post. I won’t bother to point out all of those occasions, however, since it would likely be fruitless.

More importantly, you sidestepped the point of my post. I still say that there is no “bravery” in putting a transgender character into the show. Why? Because the media is heavily in favor of such sexual aberrations.

When I say a “protected class”, I mean a class of people who cannot have their morals or behaviors questioned without the questioner being accused of “bigotry” or “non-tolerance”.

Maybe. But seems that many posters here will condemn and fault them for it. So they take a risk with those who don’t like it.

And you are judging before even seeing the television show and knowing anything about the future storyline. You don’t know how they are going to deal with this character. Perhaps they will show much regret, pain, and suffering for their choices.
In that case, you yourself might praise it.
You don’t know. You are jumping to conclusions.

Heterosexual promiscuity?
In scripts for decades?
Well. I read a lot about that in the bible, too, so this kind of behavior has been around for a long, long, long time, and reflected in writing and art.
There’s that King Dave and Bathsheba duo, for example. And Abraham and Hagar. And so many others. And the gang who live in Sodom and Gomorrah.
Lots of sexual deviances all over the bible, reflecting the time the writers lived in.

It’s been going on forever. Whether you call that or perceive that as “normal” or not is up to you.

.
Quoting myself, because my post in a different thread is directly on point here:
Humanizing is good. Sexualizing is bad.

I am all in favor of portraying people of every kind, and doing so in sympathetic ways. I am not okay with marketing them based on (at least in large part) their sex lives. Especially since they are always unmarried. When was the last time you saw a plot line that featuring the hot and heavy love life of an already married couple? Not that I am suggesting such a thing, but I’m just demonstrating what kind of sex is being pushed.

I am sure they will soon be a huge outcry because they did not have a “real” transgendered person play the part.

I don’t see how this is considered bold. Bugs Bunny was doing it 70 years ago.

I have never seen this show so just to make sure I understand: is a long running female character now revealed to be a male character?

Just more proof we are being desensitized and acclimated to such things, over time, with enough positive exposure, people will accept it as normal and see nothing wrong with it. Im sure there are big groups of people who there only job is to figure out ways to get the public used to such things so they will be accepted in the future…its not difficult to see where they are going with all of this either.

Imo, its brainwashing, done in a methodical and slow way, as to make it seem OK, even the right thing to do, of course they wont stop with transgenders, they probably are going to use this tactic when it comes to other ‘agendas’ as well.

No clue. But if I had gender dysphoria, the last thing I’d want is a soap to use my reality as yet another plot twist. Knowing soaps, this character may end up also being from the future, or a secret agent, or a vampire.

Sexual deviance is ultimately condemned in Scripture, including in the Abrahamic story, whose offspring from Hagar represents detachment from proper order.

Hollywood is extremely different. They have a scene of fornication ad nauseum in their productions, portraying it as normative…even good, the normal thing to do once you’ve gone out on a couple dates! Time to consummate! Move in together! I could name you film after film, show after show. The soaps are no different. Probably are worse. If this soap is portraying this transgender character as someone regretfully caught up in the madness of current society, and sufferer of mental difficulties, let me know, and I’ll rescind.

If this soap had actually had done this 70 years ago, it might have actually been “BRAVE.” Ridiculous still, but more brave. But when you wait until your society’s government bankrupts businesses for not endorsing all things non-heterosexual, you’re not even remotely brave. You’re a pawn of your generation.

I don’t want the LGBT agenda to be forced down the collective throat of television viewers around the world. I can’t say I’m not upset at the fact that Joanna Johnson, a former B&B regular, is one of the executive producers of The Fosters. It is worth noting that Ms. Johnson is an out-of-the-closet lesbian herself.
