Hi folks. I’m off next week and travelling to Alberta to visit family. Robin will play with the grandkids, I’ll take care of the beer and the naps. Perspectives will be on leave until my return. With the ‘dog days’ of summer upon us, and baseball pennant races beginning to heat up, I chose a most colorful fellow for the vacation perspectives , to tide you all over in the interim. This guy has said some outrageously funny things and is always good for a light moment when needed. I’ve included ten today, the last three being familiar phrases but few know with whom they originated.
Lawrence Peter " Yogi " Berra (1925 – 2015) was an American professional baseball player who later took on the roles of manager and coach. He played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball (1946–63, 1965), all but the last for the New York Yankees. He was an 18-time All-Star and won 10 World Series championships as a player—more than any other player in MLB history. He is one of only five players to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award three times. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest catchers in baseball history, and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. He is the author of four books.
“Cut my pie into four pieces, I don’t think I could eat eight.”
“We’re lost, but we’re making good time.”
“I tell the kids, somebody’s gotta win, somebody’s gotta lose. Just don’t fight about it. Just try to get better.”
“Little League can be a great experience for kids, as long as they want to play–and don’t play to bring their parents glory.”
“Losing is a learning experience. It teaches you humility. It teaches you to work harder. It’s also a powerful motivator.”
“No, I don’t go to that restaurant anymore. Nobody goes there. It’s too crowded.”
“If you ask me a question I don’t know, I’m not going to answer it.”
“It’s déjà vu all over again.”
“It ain’t over 'til it’s over.”
“Half the lies they tell about me aren’t true.”
