Hello all,
I am a private tutor for English and I will soon say good-bye to one of my students, 8-10 years since we first met and started classes together. He is a teenager, 17 years old, a very intelligent boy, very balanced, very perceptive to others needs, who wants to become a doctor just like his father and grandfather. Now, over the years, I grew very fond and close to this family. His father is a gynecologist and I gave birth with him. Both parents suffered huge medical problems over the last few years, including breast cancer, which was cured. They are not Catholics and not particularly religious, but not against it either.
So, I thought I would give them a present. I asked my father to bring me an artistic object, a specific one, but he didn’t… Today I went to mass and later I went to the bookshop near the Cathedral and there I thought I found the perfect book to offer to a teen: I have everything, 18 years of Chiara Luce. A book about the life of Chiara Luce. Later I realized that a story about a girl dying from cancer might not be such a great present. I’m afraid it will bring back painful memories since his mother had (and survived) breast cancer. A bit of an odd gift, anyway. I also want to write him a letter to wish him the best in the years to come.
Well… I really don’t have time to search for something else. If you weren’t Catholic and were a teen, how would you find such a gift?

Tomorrow I meet them, so not much time left. Slavery, African slaves, doesn’t say much where I live… we didn’t have this kind of issues… and the Catholic bookshop is closed today. Hard to find something in this field right now.
