Does anyone know of a website or other source that provides objective book assessments of children’s books from at Catholic or at least a truly Christian perspective?

I have nine grandchildren ages 11 down.

Happy Easter to all.

I have twelve grandchildren from ages 23 down to 5. Only two of them live near me, boys, 13 and 10, and they both love to read as well as like sports.

Ignatius Press has age appropriate books for youngsters, and they have a series of books available on the lives of the saints. You can check out their website and search for such books. The one on St. Benedict was given to one grandson when he was 10, and he was so fascinated with it he read it several times. To a grandaughter I have given “St. Therese and the Roses”. (not sure if that is the exact title, but it was also age appropriate.

I have given books to, and mailed books to grandchildren on their birthdays and at Christmastime. When they come over I enjoy reading to them. They all have enough games! 🙂

I’m sure there are other publishers who have great children’s books as well. I remember Adoramus Press was used by me also.

Dorothy,

Thank you for this information. I know there are so many good books to be had from sources like Ignatius Press but what I was actually looking for is a source for obtaining book assessments or commentaries, not the books themselves.

I so appreciate your kind reply.

You are welcome. I hope you find the commentaries! Have a blessed Easter.

It’s not a book site, but I reccomend you check out DecentFilms.com. It does what you’re asking, but with movies. i strongly suggest you read through some of the reviews there, and his articles about family programming and what is and isn’t appropriate in art.

I know it is nit-picky, but if you are looking for an assessment from a Catholic perspective, you are looking for the opposite of an objective assessment. You are looking precisely for an extremely biased one. That is not a bad thing.

This thread may help.
