1 Could it be that the jewish girl was not a Christian.

Could it be that if it seems a Catholic - laity or religious - has been taken over by a demon, it is rather that the demon has exaggerated the mental trauma of the person which already existed; thus, making it seem like total possession but in fact being less than that yet in combination with the already mentally suffering person the demon leads them to similar physical manifestations?

To answer your 2nd question, no. The persons are tested for mental disorders before an exorcism is deemed necessary.

In most cases, mental illness is the reason, not demonic possession.

However, one test that the exorcist priest who was on Mother Angelica told about, was to put the Blessed Sacrament into a room where the possessed person has no idea about it’s presence or where. They become reluctant to enter the room and once inside, are agitated and will begin to point exactly where the Blessed Sacrament is.

He also said unbeknown to the person, they’ll have a pitcher with holy water in it. They’ll ask the person if they would like some water to drink. The person sips the water and begins to scream and curse at the burning sensation they get from the water.

I have heard also the new Vatican top exorcist has written some books. It might be worth checking out some of his literature.

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit. 18 A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will know them by their fruit

I agree. But, there is a difference between being taken over by evil and being fully possessed. I think because of movies we tend to think these things are more regular than what they are. Obsession and oppression are much, much, much more common as is extreme fatigue on the human condition.
