This is a handy commentary in a very compact form. There’s about 90 pages of articles dedicated to introducing some critical topics about the Catholic Bible:
Church teaching on inspiration
The Bible and the Teaching Church
How the Bible Came About
Literary Forms of the Bible
Biblical Themes
How to Study the Bible
These are really interesting and concise essays. They take the “short route” to explaining things which took me a long time to learn along the “long route.”
The main part of the book consists of about a four page (generally) introduction to each book of the Bible. This gives me a quick overview of each book. After years of Bible study, mostly on my own, I can say that the comments are very helpful and accurate.
The book concludes with some additional Bible study aids (20 pages). There are listings of the parables and miracles of Jesus. Side by side comparisons the contents of the gospels. There’s a table with the Jewish calendar. There are several pages of listings of the events of the gospels, for easy reference.
There are times when I don’t want to look at or don’t even have a big commentary book to help me, so this comes in handy.
