Hey ya’ll.
My papi just happens to be my Father. Yes, my dad is a Ukrainian Catholic priest and he’s been so for 30 years. Now seeing as Father’s Day is coming up, I want to get a gift for him. Specifically about the priesthood. Doing some research, I found two books that I would like to give him. The first is, The Priest is not his Own by Archbishop Fulton Sheen, and the second is Gift and Mystery by Pope Saint John Paul II.
Despite being in Canada 30 years, my dad’s English is not the best. He can read just fine, it’s more about the comprehension. I’m wondering if ya’ll could suggest any books more driven towards Byzantine Rite priests. Also if ya’ll could tell me if the books I picked out would be suitable.
One last thing. If ya’ll could suggest any books that would improve his homily giving skills. Right now his strategy is to scour the internet for other people’s homilies and just say them. They sound very disingenuous and I can see people not paying attention to them in church. I know he can give good homilies because he does when he says them in Ukrainian, but when he does them in english, it’s very frustrating. Perhaps a book will help?
Thanks!
God Bless.
Glory be to Jesus Christ.
p.s His homilies follow the pattern of reading his homily in English and then explaining it beautifully in Ukrainian. Our church is bilingual so I feel that he feels giving the same homily in two languages wouldn’t be a good use of time.
