I just finished reading this novel. Has anyone else read it? I have never read anything like it before. I usually stick to mystery/suspense “cops against serial killer” stuff.

This was the first book that ever had me in tears. Makes it hard to read, lol.

I don’t want to spoil the ending for any of you who have not read it (I highly recommend you do!) so I won’t comment further…

Briefly, it is about a family where one daughter has a type of leukemia. They decide to genetically engineer a sibling to donate cord blood. It spirals from there until, at 13, the second daughter wants the right to make her own medical decisions. It tells the story from the points of view of all involved…mother, father, both sisters, a forgotten brother, lawyer etc.

Hi Malia,
If you enjoyed this one, then you would like Jodi’s other novels. They are wonderful. “Plain Truth” was the first of hers I read, simply because I like the cover. Turns out the book was every bit as good. You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks Kathy, I was just about to check my library online to see if they have any of her other books. Thanks!

I read all of Jodi’s books. I liked My Sister’s Keeper. It’s been a little while… but from what I recall, the ending took me by surprise - maybe one of the characters turned out to be different than I expected? I’d have to read it again to remember specifically…

I do remember thinking that when a child has an illness such as cancer - really it’s the entire family that suffers. Wasn’t the brother also affected? Very sad.

Didn’t she write The Pact? I didn’t care for that book as much.
