I am a new Catholic and my family is all protestant. My daughter asked me if I know of a book on female Catholic Saints…she’d like one on several, especially recent ones. (as she mentioned “Are there Catholic Saints even today?”. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

There’s a rather recent book about St. Gianna Molla, a female Saint of our age. Or look at St. Teresa of the Andes, or St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. If you do a search on Amazon.com you will find a number of books on the female Saints of the Church.

It would be helpful to know the age of your daughter. When I was in grade school, I read many lives of the Saints, and “Our Lady Came to Fatima” stands out in my mind as a wonderful book which has stood the test of my years.
As an adult, I recently recommended a biography of Edith Stein(St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross) written by Maria Ruiz Scaperlanda. Both books are excellent. Both deal with saints of this century.
Have a wonderful time reading. There are so many female saints that you might want to start a saints day tradition for your daughter and give her of a female saint biography each year on her saint’s day or on all saints day.
May God bless you.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta comes quickly to mind. A good book on Mother Teresa is: “Mother Teresa: A Complete Authorized Biography,” Kathryn Spink.
