**The Antichrist and Antichrists **
St. John 19: 15 But they cried out, Away with [him], away with [him], crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

I John 2: 18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

I John 2: 22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. (This is the Biblical definition of antichrist.)

I John 4: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

I John 4: 3 and every spirit which does not confess Jesus Christ come in flesh is not of God: and this is that [power] of the antichrist, [of] which ye have heard that it comes, and now it is already in the world (Darby translation).

II John 1: 7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

II John 1: 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, men who will not acknowledge the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh; such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist (RSV).

Jim beat me to it… I was going to post a link to Jimmy Akin’s article in This Rock on the subject.
Pardon me, but, I just don’t quite understand what you are saying. Could someone break it down for me???

Revelation does not give us any information about the Antichrist’s race or origin. Jimmy Akin’s article tells us what the Early Fathers and others have deduced.

Since the Muslims (and they’re not all Arabs) have taken over the Temple Mount, I can see some logic behind thinking that they may progress to being the Antichrist; but to do so they’d have to set up a false god in the Dome of the Rock. They haven’t done that yet. They **do **worship the God of the Old Testament, though they may have a different way of relating to Him than we Christians.

Lots of people over time have tried to identify the Antichrist with certain people, or races. Personally, I think they are as deluded as those who have inferred that some races are superior to others.

Hope this helps,

Ruthie

Thanks, this is good. I believe that we are all one , brothers and sisters. So I will pass this on to my friends about the Book of Revelation and the anti Christ.

Sister Florence

I am sorry that I was not clear, forgive me.

Thank you.

I listed the passages that mention the antichrist or antichrists.

I also listed the best passages of people who were really antiCHRIST.

To say, we have no king but Caesar, is really, really antiCHRIST.

Then John says the antichrist and antichrists are alive during New Testament times.

Please note, the term antichrist is not used in the Book of Revelation. Perhaps the ideas is, but not the actual word.

However, many Christian writers teach that the Book of Revelation was written about the Fall of Jerusalem. Therefore, if the antichrist is described, it is still during Biblical times.

If this is not clear, I will try again, thanks!

Jim,
It is clear, and thanks. I did not realize that the word antichrist was not used in the Book of Revelation. And I am glad to pass that on. I must get out my concordance of the Bible and check with that before I ask questions. right?
Thanks again.
Peace and every good.

However, many Christian writers teach that the Book of Revelation was written about the Fall of Jerusalem. Therefore, if the antichrist is described, it is still during Biblical times.
The New Testament was written in Greek. The Greek word “apocalypse” meant “revelation,” “unveiling,” things of that nature. It is to my understanding that when the Book of Apocalypse was written, it was intended as a forewarning to Christians about the incredible persecution that was about to happen. Additionally, I read somewhere that the number “666” is a numerical symbol for “Nero.”

Given these things, it is safe to say that the events described in the Book of Apocalypse have come and gone, but that the inherent meaning still holds true to this day.

It seems to me that anyone who denies Christ is an antichrist. Therefore this world is full of antichrists.

“It is to my understanding…I read somewhere…giving these things…”

No, I would not say it is safe to say all these things have come and pass.

Yes, there have been many persecutions in church history and Revelation could be and has been used to strenghten the church when persecuted. But there is a difference in the events of persecution in the past and those foretold in Rev4 and on. In the past, those persecutions did not have the return of Christ.

And in Revelation 3, when Jesus is addressing the Church of Philadelphia, it seems they were already being persecuted greatly for Jesus’ sake-
Revelation 3:8
I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

But yet in verses 10-11, Jesus tells them he will keep them from the “hour of trial” and connects his coming back to earth with this event-
Revelation 3:10-11
Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth. I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

Mohammad was one of the worst anti-Christs. Unfortunately his satanic legacy persists which is keeping about 1 billion people (muslims) from realising that Christ is the truth.

Here is a link to what I have done on the Antichrist litteralchristianlibrary.wetpaint.com/page/The+Antichrist

St. Hippolytus believed that the Antichrist will come from the tribe of Dan. I doubt it.

I believe he will be some sort of political leader who will be highly secular but will unite Muslems and anti-Christian people against the Church and make himself out to be the Messiah. He will take control of a one world economy and government. I can imagine that it could happen very soon considering the state of the world affairs and the puzzling desire for Socialism even by Americans.

I am impressed with all the answers and knowledge that is floating out there in cybersace. It is a good world and I am grateful to all of you for your commitment to the Church and your spirit.
Peace and all good.

Hi

Personally, I think that Daniel Chapter 8 gives us the best understanding of that time.
Dan 8:1 In the third year of the reign of king Baltasar, a vision appeared to me. I, Daniel, after what I had seen in the beginning,
Dan 8:2 Saw in my vision when I was in the castle of Susa, which is in the province of Elam: and I saw in the vision that I was over the gate of Ulai.
Dan 8:3 And I lifted up my eyes, and saw: and behold a ram stood before the water, having two high horns, and one higher than the other, and growing up. Afterward
Dan 8:4 I saw the ram pushing with his horns against the west, and against the north, and against the south: and no beasts could withstand him, nor be delivered out of his hand: and he did according to his own will, and became great.
Dan 8:5 And I understood: and behold a he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and he touched not the ground, and the he goat had a notable horn between his eyes.
Dan 8:6 And he went up to the ram that had the horns, which I had seen standing before the gate, and he ran towards him in the force of his strength.
Dan 8:7 And when he was come near the ram, he was enraged against him, and struck the ram: and broke his two horns, and the ram cound not withstand him: and when he had cast him down on the ground, he stamped upon him, and none could deliver the ram out of his hand.
Dan 8:8 And the he goat became exceeding great: and when he was grown, the great horn was broken, and there came up four horns under it towards the four winds of heaven.
Dan 8:9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn: and it became great against the south, and against the east, and against the strength.
Dan 8:10 And it was magnified even unto the strength of heaven: and it threw down of the strength, and of the stars, and trod upon them.
Dan 8:11 And it was magnified even to the prince of the strength: and it took away from him the continual sacrifice, and cast down the place of his sanctuary.
Dan 8:12 And strength was given him against the continual sacrifice, because of sins: and truth shall be cast down on the ground, and he shall do and shall prosper.
Dan 8:13 And I heard one of the saints speaking, and one saint said to another I know not to whom, that was speaking: How long shall be the vision, concerning the continual sacrifice, and the sin of the desolation that is made: and the sanctuary, and the strength be trodden under foot?
Dan 8:14 And he said to him: Unto evening and morning two thousand three hundred days: and the sanctuary shall be cleansed.
Dan 8:15 And it came to pass when I, Daniel, saw the vision, and sought the meaning, that behold there stood before me as it were the appearance of a man.
Dan 8:16 And I heard the voice of a man between Ulai: and he called, and said: Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.
Dan 8:17 And he came, and stood near where I stood: and when he was come, I fell on my face, trembling, and he said to me: Understand, O son of man, for in the time of the end the vision shall be fulfilled.
Dan 8:18 And when he spoke to me, I fell flat on the ground: and he touched me, and set me upright.
Dan 8:19 And he said to me: I will shew thee what things are to come to pass in the end of the malediction: for the time hath its end.
Dan 8:20 The ram, which thou sawest with horns, is the king of the Medes and Persians.
Dan 8:21 And the he goat, is the king of the Greeks, and the great horn that was between his eyes, the same is the first king.
Dan 8:22 But whereas when that was borken, there arose up four for it, four kings shall rise up of his nation, but not with his strength.
Dan 8:23 And after their reign, when iniquities shall be grown up, there shall arise a king of a shameless face, and understanding dark sentences.
Dan 8:24 And his power shall be strengthened, but not by his own force: and he shall lay all things waste, and shall prosper, and do more than can be believed. And he shall destroy the mighty, and the people of the saints,
Dan 8:25 According to his will, and craft shall be successful in his hand: and his heart shall be puffed up, and in the abundance of all things he shall kill many: and he shall rise up aginst the prince of princes, and shall be broken without hand.
Dan 8:26 And the vision of the evening and the morning, which was told, is true: thou, therefore, seal up the vision, because it shall come to pass after many days.
Dan 8:27 And I, Daniel, languished, and was sick for some days: and when I was risen up, I did the king’s business, and I was astonished at the vision, and there was none that could interpret it.
He comes into being after Iran and Iraq (Modern day Medo-Persia) unites. The ram, king of the Greeks, might be the U.S. - as the Greeks in the O.T. were the first democracy in history, and we (The U.S.) are the first democracy in modern history. So…

Peace

John

John,
Something else to ponder more closely
