Book on Chastity for near teen

Praise be to Christ! My niece turns 12 in a month. She loves to read, and I want to get her a book on chastity / theology of the body / respecting herself, etc. She is very bright for her age. I know Patrick Coffin writes on the subject, but his works seem to be geared toward adults. I welcome any suggestions!

Romance Without Regret by Jason Evert. Theology of Her/His Body (It’s a combined book) is a good read as well. His wife, Chrystalina Evert, has a very short book called Pure Womanhood that you can buy for a dollar at Catholic bookstores if you want to get one of the first two books and something small as well.
 
the book “arms of love” it isn’t necessarily rules on how to live chastely but is a fictitious beautiful story of how a Catholic relationship looks like. it was a great inspiration for me even as a male where i think it is focused toward women.
 
I would avoid anything by the Everts…

I love their work but definitely way too much for a 12 year old, in my opinion.

Alternatively, I suggest perhaps looking at a Catholic (or Christian) shop for a Bible with questions and reflections geared towards that age. Or a journal?
 
The thing is, you’re not going to find anything about it without it being a little bit maturely themed. But the thing is, if she is twelve, she knows more than you want to think she knows. It’s best if she has this influence now rather than a year from now when more problems are starting to occur.
 
I recently got a book called “How Far Can We Go? A Catholic Guide to Sex and Dating” by Leah Perrault and Brett Salkeld for my 17 year old, but I am sharing some of it with my twelve year old. It is aimed at young people and is very understandable.

I disagree. I think that it is fine for 12 year olds with parental discussion. My own daughter heard the Everts speak and they had a tremendous influence on her. You may want to check out their books and dvds for yourself and then decide since you feel she is bright for her age.
 
There is also Coleen Kelly Mast who does the live show “The Dr. is In” at 12 central time weekdays on EWTN Radio. She has a website www.sexrespect.com She may have a book that is geared to your neice’s age range.

Books on chastity are wonderful, however I hope that you are using something to keep this little girl away from the rough side of the internet. If she is accessing the net or any of the family members, including the Dad, there should be barriers to prevent the pornographers from getting to the kids or for the kids to the porn.

At the very least a filter is needed for the computers . I prefer wisechoice.net but there is an excellent review site at filterreview.org.

It is also helpful to keep any computers in public spots like the kitchen or living room as computers in bedrooms seem to be used for “hidden things”. Also a content filter on your cable or satellite TV access will block the "soft porn from coming in .
