I am currently going through RCIA and my Dad is supportive and even curious at times. He was raised Catholic but has been away from the church for about 20 years.

He has some common questions that I could of course look up in the Catechism, but I am more interested in a book that would be both intellectually stimulating and spiritually evocative.

I am not trying to “push” anything on him, but he has shown a spark of interest (with a sense of loaded frustration) so I thought a good book might be a start for his spiritual journey…any recommendations?

Thank you!

I highly recommend Pope Francis’ “The Church of Mercy” < this book increased my faith a great deal, it’s easy to read and full of Biblical quotations, hope this helps.

Scott Hahn’s The Lamb’s Supper might be good for both of you.

Matthew Kelly’s book “Rediscovering Catholicism” is perfect for all fallen-away Catholics. I was a fallen- away Catholic myself. My daughter found the Catholic Church and entered RCIA. She called me after each session and asked me if I recalled whatever they had studied. I usually did. Finally, when they were getting ready to make their final discernment, she called me and said “We are allowed to bring anyone we want to the next meeting” and asked me if I would go. I thought to myself: sure, I will go to support her and hope this makes her happy. I witnessed her making Confirmation and First Holy Communion, and a longing in my own heart began. I returned to the faith within a year. God Bless you and your family.🙂

GREAT recommendation! I recommend it for all Catholics, especially those who have fallen away.
