I’m looking for book recommendations for a very dear friend of mine. He’s a Christian, not Catholic, and a very good-hearted man. He told me his favorite author is by far G. K. Chesterton, and I’ve frequently overheard him mentioning Chesterton’s Fence to others. We were recently discussing religion, and I asked if he prays to Chesterton. When he said he doesn’t, I surprised because I assumed Chesterton would have strongly recommended, at the very least, prayer/devotion to Mary. He explained to me that he’s only read a handful of Chesterton’s non-fiction works, but then said he’s happy to take recommendations.

The Everlasting Man is, I think, one of my favourites of his books. If your friend likes Chesterton you should ask if he’s ever read C.S Lewis, the two go very well together. Then again if you’re looking for Catholic books for your friend maybe not since Lewis was Anglican but they’re still excellent books from any perspective.
