I am interested in obtaining a copy of the Apocrypha, but I want to make sure it’s a legitimate book, not something that’s questionable. Does anyone have any recommendations? Is there a copy that is Church approved? Thanks for your help.

Peace,
Linda

Depending on the context, different books are considered ‘apocryphal’. There are the books and additions to Esther and Daniel that don’t appear in Protestant Bibles, but in do appear in Catholic Bibles. For those, you just need to get an Catholic Bible. They will be ‘Church approved’.

There are books in the Greek and Slavonic Bibles that are not in the Catholic Bible. I don’t see how any of these would be ‘Church Approved’, except in the sense that they can appear in non-Catholic editions which nevertheless have an imprimatur.

You can get ‘all’ of the apocryphal books in the NRSV with Apocrypha.

Hope this helps.

What do you mean by “Apocrypha”? If you are refering to the deuterocanonical books then they are found in all Catholic Bibles. If you are refering to non-canonical books you can find many sources which contain any number of Old and New Testament Apochryphal works. New Advent has most of the NT Apocrypha on their web site.

Thanks for your responses. I do not mean the deuterocanonicals; I mean the books like the Book of Enoch, the Shepherd of Hermas, etc. I am aware that the deuterocanonicals are in the Catholic Bible.

Linda

ah … the Pseudepigrapha

I would really doubt that there are any imprimatured editions out there.

There is an edition published by Oxford Press and one by Doubleday.
