A MONTH WITH MARY, by Don Dolindo Ruotolo, translated by Msgr. Arthur Burton Calkins, and published by The Franciscans Of The Immaculate.

This is a book of meditations along the lines of the IMITATION OF CHRIST. Father Don wrote this in 1912 for a friend. The 31 sections are intended to be read during the month of May. Which I did, and in June as well. I put this book in my files with a note that it should be re-read every Month of May in the future.
Essentially, it is a dialogue between a Soul and Mary. During the Month, Mary encourages the soul, suggests things to do, and suggest new thoughts, attitudes, and behavior.
OK, some readers may not like this style of writing and meditation. In my case, I was disturbed at how accurately Father Don knew me. And maybe it was indeed Mary who told me not to dream of doing harsh penances, and to stop daydreaming of martyerdom.
Mary calls for the Franciscan virtues of living simply and modestly, of frequent sacrements, and of taking things at a gentle pace on a gently path.
As I said, a good set of meditations for those who like this style of book. I learned much, and hope to learn more as May comes every year.
