A Protestant friend gave me a book by Mary Ann Collins (former nun). She bashes the Church from front cover to back, especially the Popes…

Is there a book that is fair and balanced in regards to the history of the Popes, starting from Peter…

There have been three books which are fabrications and anti-Catholic. All these supposed ex-nuns are ficticious, they never existed. The above sites will give you some professional Catholic information.

I am a rock solid Roman Catholic so these foolish attempts to dinigrate Catholics is easily refuted.

Pope Fiction; by Patrick Madrid is a very very good book.
The Papacy; by Catholic Answers,
Jesus, Peter, & the Keys; by Scott Butler et al.

I especially reccomend Pope Fiction.

Anyway, this will give you a good start, and please, if you follow Exporters links, remember that those websites are horribly Anti-Catholic and full of blatent lies.

One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic, by Kenneth Whitehead, has a very good summary of the papacy up until ca. AD 600.
 
I find Patrick Madrid’s work very helpful for addressing fallacies taught about the Catholic church. His writing style is very accessible without being dumbed down. Most of his books are ten dollars or less and can be read within a day. The way he writes is helpful because the ideas really stick in my head. He has a book which I think is titled “Pope Fiction,” which can be bought on Amazon. I’m sure other places sell it as well, but I have no Catholic book store near me, so I use Amazon or halfprice.com from ebay.

I think he also has a show on EWTN with a similar name. I don’t receive EWTN where I live, but only recently learned that many of the programs can be listened to or watched (depending if they come from the radio or tv station) on the computer. You might want to look it up on their web site.

Excerpts from Keating’s “What Catholics Really Believe” (I say excerpts because the book is organized as responses to alleged Catholic beliefs) and chapters in “Why do Catholics Do that,” by Kevin Johnson also adresses misconcpetions about the pope.
