I have it; I haven’t read it yet, though, since I’m finishing up St. Augustine’s “Confessions”.

It is one of the best books I have read. It is a defense of the Catholic Church against Calvinists in France. About 70,000 Calvinists, the whole town, converted to Catholicism as a result of this writing.

It’s one of my “Top 5” foundational books. It literally changed my life.
 
I have found these “pamphlets” here. Is this the complete work, or is it just extracts? I bookmarked it a few weeks ago, since it said it was from Catholic Controversy.

I have it and it is truly awesome and WORTH owning.

I checked your link Pug and while I don’t have the book w/ me, I’m thinking that might actually be it. It’s a pretty thick book.

Worth the $ though owning
 
Wow looks like I should get it. I dont usually buy books, especially if the library has them, but in this case I can afford about $10 and from what I see here it is worth every cent.

I haven’t read all of it, but the first few chapters were great! He makes a great argument about where Luther derives his authority. If Luther was not a prophet, which he did not claim to be, then his authority was ordinary. Meaning, he had to get his authority from the Church. The problem is twofold from there. If Luther got his authority from the Church (that assumes the Church had authority to give), then where did he get the authority to lead people outside of it. If the Church did not have the authority to grant, then the very place Luther would have gained his authority would be moot. It’s an interesting dilemma, but I liked that argument.
 
im reading introduction to the devout life…very challenging…but good…

its no wonder de Sales is a Doctor of the Church
