The most recent thread I found on this was in 2005. My son is getting married in a few months. He is going through marriage preparation, but I wondered if anyone had any good book recommendations on having a happy, healthy Catholic marriage?

“Three to get married” by Fulton Sheen was given to me and my fiance as a gift to help us for our engagement. I have read about 40 pages into it. Seems good but it’s kinda a hard read for someone like me so I have not really picked it back up in a couple weeks. But one of the priests at my parish says it’s the best book on marriage he has ever read.

Perhaps someone reading this has read it and can better comment on how good it is?

My mom wanted me to read “3 to Get Married.”

I love Fulton Sheen, but to be very honest, the idea of reading about how to have a Christian marriage was terrifying to me. Marriage seemed like such a huge responsibility anyway. My husband and I had known each other a long time (years) and were familiar with the basics of how each handled money, we had had arguments and worked through them, and our “priorities list” that we made at pre-Cana matched almost exactly, but even so, I was nervous.

Has your son actually asked for a book or a resource? Is he the type who enjoys reading books on spiritual life on a regular basis? If so, a book might be a nice gift. If not, maybe you want to just let him go through marriage prep with his fiancee without pushing more stuff to read, learn, ponder on him.

I was married 23 years, am now a widow. I never did get around to reading “3 to get Married”.

Three to Get Married is beautiful, timeless.

I’d suggest getting him a subscription to Formed.org. They have two series “Beloved”. One is preparing for marriage, the other is living marriage, that are excellent. Formed also has tons of other studies, movies, books, audio books, it is “the Catholic Netflix” and more!
