Has anyone read any good books or know of good resources on the subject of evangelization?
Or have any good advice of their own?

I know some people who are open to dialogue about faith and religion. I probably have a mediocre/fair knowledge about Catholicism, however i don’t feel confident that i could easily give satisfactory answers to arguments or questions. I’m sure most of that is just fear and insecurity. I’m mostly afraid that i’ll say something wrong.

Lately I’ve been reading up a lot on Catholic Answers and in the forums but I’m looking for additional resources and advice. So any suggestions?

I have ordered books here for our use and have proven helpful when it comes to apologetics. Fathers knows best by Jimmy Akins is good, Memorize the reasons. Rome sweet home by Scott Hahn, Rediscovering Catholicism by matthew Kelly and 4 signs of a dynamic catholic by matther Kelly.
Also if you are able to, attend a Great Adventure seminar by jeff cavins…that is extremely helpful on trying to understand the Bible and its meanings.

The first answer mentions a book by Scott Hahn, Rome Sweet Home. I’d also look at “Evangelizing Catholics: A Mission Manual for the New Evangelization” also by Scott Hahn.

Whatever you do, make sure you spend time reading Scripture. And after Scripture, spend time reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church. And before both of those, spend time in prayer.

In addition to that, this book that I recently read might come in handy: How to Defend the Faith Without Raising Your Voice: Civil Responses to Catholic Hot Button Issues. It covers a lot of the issues that frequently come up in general conversation, and it does so by first recognizing the positive intent behind the error and then building from there to illustrate the Catholic position. I found it to be very helpful.

Forming Intentional Disciples by Sherry Weddell is one of the best books I have read about evangelization. Many parishes are making their parish staffs read it.

I’m currently reading and would recommend Evangelical Catholicism] by George Weigel. It’s quite broad in its scope, while offering alot of different insights into what this idea of the “new evagelization” looks like in theory and practice.

Forming Intentional Disciples and Catholic Laity in the Mission of the Church.
