Books on Judaism

In my pursuit to delve deeper and deeper into the Catholic faith, I have found myself wanting to learn more and more about Judaism. I am looking for recommendations, from primarily Jewish posters, or Jews who have also become Catholic. Books by Catholic writers are okay, but I’d really like to read it from the Jewish perspective as well. Although obviously I don’t wish to have anything from someone who is Anti-Catholic or is out to disprove Jesus as the Messiah… just like a … Hey, this is what we believe… kinda book. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would recommond Herman Wouk’s THIS IS MY GOD.

Wouk is himself a practicing Orthodox Jew, and he explains traditional Judaism in a concise and interesting manner. As an Orthodox, I found myself on familiar ground.

He also has some delightfully witty things to say about the folly of liberal Biblical scholarship (such as calling Wellhausen “an inside-out Bible for non-believers”).

I highly reccomend Joseph Telushkin’s Jewish Literacy or “Jewish Wisdom”. BOth books give quick 1 to 2 page chapters on a very wide range of jewish issues. “Jewish Literacy” is a standard in many Jewish libraries.
