Books you would like to see made into movies (and who would you cast?)

These are a few that I could think of…

Bag of Bones by Stephan King and I would like to see Bruce Willis as the lead male role, Mike Noonan. It’s a love story/ghost story, and since he did such an amazing job in The Sixth Sense, I know he would be perfect.

Father Elijah by Michael O’Brien, and I would like to see Mel Gibson as the lead. Any O’Brien novel would be perfect for the big screen.
Sophia House would be great. I don’t know who I would choose to play David (Father Elijah as a boy for those of you who haven’t read it yet), but the guy who played John Paul in the recent Hallmark movie would be good as Pawel Tarnowski.
Strangers and Sojourners would be a beautiful film, with its descriptions of the rugged land, and Anne’s journey from England to Canada, their courtship, marriage, Stephan’s unwavering faith, and Anne’s deathbed conversion, etc. I think maybe Aidan Quinn would be good as Stephan Delaney and I don’t know who should play Anne.

Oh well, I’ve rambled enough…
 
I’d like to see a movie made by Mel Gibson about the Blessed
Mother! That would be awesome! I LOVED the Passion of the Christ! Awesome!
 
I would like a GOOD movie version of Les Miserables… but as I doubt that’s going to happen… for one thing I want one that REALLY sticks to the book - and I wouldn’t be upset if it was a 4 hour movie… but most aren’t going to want that…

Probably…hmm its hard - I happen to already love the BBC/A&E 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice (because its the closest to the book)

A Lot of times if I love a book, I DON’T want a movie version because it will always clash with what is in my head… Pride and Prejudice there being an example of me being pleasantly surprised - I was sooo worried it would be aweful…

I’d like a good version of the Phantom of the Opera as well, but since we can’t seem to get too truthful a rendition of the novel (with the exception of the original silent movie that I can’t seem to get into) I don’t expect it to happen either (and don’t get me off on the musical version - personally it wasn’t even true to itself…but thats another story completely)

Maybe a true to the book movie of “A Little Princess” - that would be nice - or a really faithful movie based on the Little House books…
 
My all time favorite book is My Brother’s Keeper, by Marcia Davenport and based on the story of the Collier Brothers. The book has captured my imagination since first given to me by my Dad to read when I was a teen.
As to who would play the characters; I don’t know but I’d hope they would be excellent but relatively unknown actors so I would not identify with any other roles they have played.
 
I wish someone would make some children’s movies out of the Hilda van Stockum books–particularly The Winged Watchman. I still love reading that book! :bounce: Another good potential family film would be Outlaws of Ravenhurst–that is such a great story! 🙂
 
And I wish Peter Jackson would make *The Hobbit * and maybe Ivanhoe too! I love all those medieval-ish types of films! 😃

Me too! 😃 A quite decent version of Ivanhoe was filmed in 1952 starring Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor. Btw, I don’t agree with the one review given by a person styling himself as C. K. Dexter Haven (the name of the scheming ex-husband in The Philadelphia Story) who obviously thinks every film about the times of the knights of the round table ought to be laugh fest. :rolleyes:

Also, I’d like to see The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffery or maybe the first chronological story about Pern or a combination of the series made into a film. I have no idea who would play what parts, though. I’ve never really thought that through.

I agree. What i would like to see is mel gibson make movie about the whole life of christ. not just his final days. he is such a good catholic. He is one man ready to put his faith before carreer, money, everything about his professional life

And Bud’s other two books, also. Of course, they’d be a series, since one follows the other, but it would be great! Oh…the names? **Conceived Without Sin ** and House Of Gold .
 
Any of Madeline L’Engel’s books like *A Wrinkle in Time *or The Young Unicorns. If they could be done really well, and true to the book, they would be sooooo good!

No, he already has all of that so he doesn’t have to worry about making religious movies. I seriously doubt he would have even considered it 20+ years ago.
 
I would like to see a movie version about Fatima because the story has always interested me and I believe it totally…I’ve seen “The Song of Bernadette” about Lourdes which I love, and I think a movie about the children and the apparitions of Fatima would be awesome. Not too many good Catholic movies coming out anymore…The Passion, I Am David, and Therese (I think thats the name of it) were the only recent ones I know of, unless I missed one.

Heather, there is a movie about Fatima. There may be more than one, but the one I’m familiar with was made in 1952, and the title is “The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima”, or maybe it’s “The Miracle of Fatima”. Go to Amazon.com and enter either title. I’m sure it would come up on video.
