Hi friends! šŸ‘‹

Some days ago I found a book at Net about the great Catholic European culture before the moslems entered the scene. The topic of the book was to show that the modern idea of some Europeans, that the moslems brought the culture and science to Europe, is wrong.

I want to buy that book, but I didnā€™t bookmark the webpage and I canā€™t remember the title of the book.

Is there anyone here that get an idea of what book that might be?

Please suggest a title and the name of the author if you know about a book that covers the topic (or part of the topic) I am interested in!

If you also have a link to add, I will be very happy!!

Thanks! šŸ™‚

Gratias,

Why donā€™t you use your ā€œhistoryā€ button? It should let you see all sites visited within the last 2-3 weeks.

I have tried, that, but I have seached so many websites that it will take me hours to go through them.

I posted the question in the hope that somone should recognice the topic and add a title or two. That would spare me for a lot of work. I am intersted in this topic because of the anti-catholic (and anti-christian) wind that blows over the seculare westen world.

Thanks for your suggestion, SHJ-BVM!

Could it be this one:
How The Catholic Church Built Western Civilization

If this is the one and you get it, could you let us know if itā€™s good or not? I saw it at Barnes & Noble last night, but it was wrapped in plastic, so I couldnā€™t look inside.

PS - Edit to add - The same author (Thomas E. Woods) wrote ā€œThe Politically Incorrect Guide to American Historyā€ and if you buy them together, theyā€™re $34 and free shipping. The reviews for them look really good, but Iā€™m looking at the credit card which is still smoking from yesterdayā€™s workout so Iā€™m just going to keep them in my shopping cart for a while. šŸ˜ƒ

I have many books already on order and just bought two more last night, but these are reallllly intriguing!

Prolly not the exact book you found before, but highly recommend Religion and the Rise of Western Culture by Christopher Dawson. It covers most of the material you mentioned and is all around a classic work on Western history, written by a brilliant Catholic scholar.

Thank you, Elizabeth! :clapping:

**Thatā€™s the book! ** Iā€™ll buy it (or perhaps both) as soon as I have finished the one I am reading now: ā€œThe Deceiver, Our Daily Struggle with Satanā€, a very interestening book even if the the title donā€™t looks attractive. šŸ˜ƒ

Oh, good, glad I could help. šŸ™‚

:o I ended up buying both last night from booksamillion.com - with their club memberā€™s discount, they ended up costing $29, also with free shipping. (That membership has paid for itself many times over. šŸ™‚ ) Plus, I could use my military STAR card, to keep the MasterCard from spontaneously combusting in my purse. šŸ˜ƒ

Ooooh, that does look good! I get the **most interesting **recommendations here on this board! Thank you! šŸ™‚

Bless you, too!

I got these books the other day and Iā€™m about halfway through How The Catholic Church Built Western Civilization . Itā€™s absolutely incredible! I had noooo idea of most of the achievements of the Church over the centuries. I knew about the art and the architecture and some of the preservation and translation of texts, but the sciences, industry, the university systemsā€¦ itā€™s just mind-boggling! The Church has done so much more than I ever dreamed.

For instance, 2Ā½ centuries before the modern iron smelting process came into being in our secular world, it appears that it had already been discovered by Benedictine monks. The facility was destroyed in Henry VIIIā€™s erasure of all things Catholic.

Swampland was drained and made arable and fertile with the industry of the monks. Brushland was cleared and turned to agriculture.

Just incredible! A big plus is that the book is very engaging and easy to read and comprehend. Iā€™m already looking forward to reading Woodsā€™ other book about American History. Iā€™m really glad I got these! šŸ™‚

There is so much good in the history of the Church that has been completely overlooked by most historians.
